Effortless Takes a Lot of Effort, Actually: Low Maintenance Hair Styles for Fall 2024
While the weather may not be in compliance, it's post-Labor Day weekend and that means fall has arrived. This means we've all got our sights set on full-length pants, sweaters, boots, and heck-- even scarves. Let's bundle, baby! With the heat of summer dying down, naturally we're ready to see longer lengths, face framing bangs, and overall cozier hairstyles make their return.
What is a "Sexy" Shag Anyway?
The shag trend proves it's here to stay for another season-- and as a completely versatile style with endless customizations, why would it? From short, mullet-esqe shags seen on stars like Miley Cyrus to shag "inspired" curtain bangs spotted on Kaia Gerber and Jenna Ortega recently-- there are a million ways to make this style work for your client.
The overarching theme of the shag trend is how effortless it seems, but as any good stylist knows, that's mostly created in the chair. Clients who turn to shag are looking for air-dry friendly cuts with simple styling that will grow out well. When a shag is done right, it checks all of those boxes quite nicely!
Beachy Bobs
Bobs have been trending for all of 2024, and it's no surprise that as those who went short transition back to a mid-length, a more casual "beachy" bob is taking hold for fall. Less blunt and more easygoing than what we've seen over the summer-- this casual style has slight texture, whispy layering, and allows for more styling options than its shorter cousin.
This can be combined with a "shaggy" curtain bang for clients who want to tip-toe into a cool girl haircut but are still attached to having a ponytail for their workouts.
A Demure '90s Blowout
Another style that has serious staying power, we're still loving the '90s blowout trend. For a client who is willing to put in a little styling effort, bouncy waves and a soft yet sleek finish makes this style "very demure". But you'll have to be mindful of frizz and recommend products that will work for your clients hair to keep flyaways tamed as they can quickly ruin the silhouette this cut creates.
What's Next in the Way of Color?
Old Money Blonde is here to stay. Now that summer is on the way out, we're welcoming back dark roots with rich blonde ends. This soft and practical style allows for a bit more growout and looks good on just about everyone. Overall, warm is IN, cool is OUT. We're also seeing this in the world of dimensional browns. The ash brown that we loved for summer will be warming up like our pumpkin spice lattes for fall. Honey, caramel, chocolate-- you get the picture.
In the world of reds, we're predicting less cowboy copper and more strawberry tones keeping with the theme of colors that are easier to grow out and a bit more subtle and close to natural tones. We'll still see pops of copper on those who favor the bold, but love the warm strawberry resurgence as something fresh and new.
